Arts & Crafts Tiles Boxed Notecards
Designer Nawal Motawi began making art tiles in a two-car garage and sold them at a local farmers market—“next to the rutabaga sellers,” as the story goes. Her company, Motawi Tileworks, long ago outgrew its early home, but it continues to design, produce, and sell its wares out of a (much larger!) studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Motawi tiles are inspired by the peaks of the Arts and Crafts tradition, Japanese woodblock prints, vintage textiles, and even a bit of midcentury modernism, but at the root of it all is a sophisticated color palette and fine craftsmanship. Today the company produces tens of thousands of tiles for spaces large and small, from public murals to private residences, attracting appreciative collectors from around the world. This notecard assortment showcases a selection of Motawi’s floral ceramic tiles?—with no rutabagas in sight.
