The design illustrated here originates from a mamianqun, a traditional panelled skirt worn by Han Chinese women as part of the Hanfu clothing tradition. Hanfu, which dates back over three thousand years to the Song and Liao dynasties, was valued for its practical design as well as its visual elegance.
