Art of Alaska Boxed Notecards

For hundreds of years, Alaska’s breathtaking terrain and luminous skies have intrigued artists, enchanting them with its awe-inspiring vistas. The four artists represented here did not come from Alaska, but whatever brought them, all were captured by the majesty of the Alaska landscape.

Sydney Mortimer Laurence, best known for his views of Mt. McKinley, came to look for gold and stayed to paint; he is widely considered Alaska’s foremost landscape painter. Eliot O’Hara was a famed watercolorist and world traveler whose innovative techniques garnered many awards. David Mollett found inspiration for his art in the dazzling scenery of Denali Park and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Printer and journalist by trade, Jules Dahlager used a palette knife to create his gem-like paintings. These works capture the essence of Alaska—a vast, dynamic land where mountains meet the sea, and where artists will always find inspiration.
